Story Splitting Methods

#1

Recently had a number of conversations with teams, and other scrum masters related to splitting stories.

I shared a couple of resources I’ve found useful:

Those are great @andycleff. I also have seen success with what Chris Sims from Agile Learning Labs has created. His download is rather lightweight, but he delivers this in a workshop talk as well, which is pretty amazing (even for those of us that think we already know what small enough stories are  )

It was great to see this post but there is a fine line when story become task! After splitting alway go back to INVEST to validate that you didn’t just create a task…

Valuable post! I’ve got 5 “Story Splitting” bookmarks, two of which were already mentioned. The flowchart andyclef posted is my go-to, but there are some others I think are valuable…

Andy’s second cheat sheet has a worthwhile article associated with it here: http://agileforall.com/patterns-for-splitting-user-stories/

That said, if you’re new to agile and story writing (or maybe even experienced), I strongly recommend a quick read of J. B. Rainsberger’s article “How You’ll Probably Learn to Split Features” In fact, you might want to read it twice
